Ephemeral Temples is a photo project documenting the temporary prayer tents that appear across George Town, Penang, during the Hungry Ghost Festival. These makeshift structures transform roadsides and alleys into sacred spaces to honour the King of Hades and wandering spirits. The series captures how faith endures through impermanence and how Penang’s multi-racial harmony allows such traditions to flourish.

My recent assignment took me to Perhentian Island for the first time, just before the monsoon season. The trip was a mix of logistics, light packing challenges, and quiet reflection at the airport. Amid the rush, I was reminded how composition often comes from subconscious observation — isolating frames from endless possibilities. This Perhentian Island photography journey was both a creative and personal reminder of why remote assignments are always worth it.

A morning photoessay exploring Gurney Bay Penang, a luxurious waterfront park launched in 2024. Despite its clean design, I struggled with the flat, minimal space and lack of depth. With my Canon 5DSR and TS-E 45mm, I experimented with tilt-shift techniques, framing the waning crescent moon and Venus at dawn. This shoot reminded me how quickly light and clouds shift, and how even quiet places can teach you something new.

Photography often brings me behind the scenes of places I never imagined, and this time it led me into the world of IVF advanced protocol and embryology innovation. I had the honor of documenting a visit from Dr. Marcos Meseguer of Spain and Dr. Robert Fischer of Germany. It was a privilege to witness world-class expertise in such a specialized field and to capture the atmosphere where science and innovation intersect.

I wandered through a George Town morning starting at 6 a.m., when the streets were still wrapped in shadows and faint light. From trishaw silhouettes and a cat’s unbothered stare to glowing shoplots, market rush, quiet prayers, and a massive mango tree, each frame revealed a city slowly waking up. This photoessay isn’t about dramatic scenes but about the delicate play between shadow, light, and Penang’s layered history.

Proud to share my corporate photography for Micron Technology, commissioned through W3RK Agency, now published in their Sustainability Report 2025. Spanning five days, the project covered exteriors, workplace culture, diversity, career benefits, sign language, and sustainability. Each image was created to reflect Micron’s high-end branding while telling authentic stories of people, spaces, and values that define the company.

The newly refurbished Esplanade Penang has quickly become my favourite hangout spot. What makes it special isn’t just the upgrades but how nature has been preserved and seamlessly integrated with the surrounding heritage architecture. I’ve decided to bring back my “what a morning” photoessay—a simple practice of capturing fragments from a morning walk. From an uncle glued to his phone to an old car fading into a textured wall, from trees overtaking rooftops to aunties locked in timeless conversations, each frame reveals quiet truths. A morning walk is never just exercise—it’s a reminder to notice the small, ironic, and poetic details around us.

The recent OCBC campaign where my image was licensed reminded me how crucial it is to practice sustainability in photography. Licensing is often overlooked, but it plays a key role in keeping our industry fair and creative. It allows photographers to stay motivated, ensures clients are charged fairly based on usage, and helps sustain photography as a craft and profession in the long run.

It’s always fulfilling to see photography transcend personal projects and become part of wider campaigns that carry meaning and inspire growth.

The Fort Cornwallis restoration is bringing new life to one of Penang’s most iconic landmarks. Through my photo essay, I capture the careful heritage work being done on the fort’s walls, gates, and historic spaces. It’s inspiring to witness how conservation can preserve not just architecture but also the stories and culture behind it. I can’t wait to see Fort Cornwallis fully restored and reopened, a heritage site where both locals and visitors can reconnect with history.
