Photoessay: Seeing "Wimmelbild" in George Town, Penang
“Seeing Wimmelbild” in George Town is about noticing dense, layered moments where every corner of the frame carries meaning. In George Town’s lively streets, this approach turns everyday scenes into rich compositions filled with sub-moments and visual depth. This excerpt explores how resolution, structure, and an anchor subject help transform busy environments into intentional wimmelbild photographs.

Photoessay: White Wash Project 2
The White Wash Project continues to document the rapid whitening of George Town’s heritage buildings, revealing how colour is being stripped away in the name of modernization and commercial appeal. This essay highlights the growing loss of identity, the impact of standardization, and the few examples where careful restoration still protects the city’s original character.

My Photo Published on Nat Geo: I Guess I’m a National Geographic Photographer Now? (Well… Kind Of.)
I’m thrilled to share that one of my images was officially licensed and featured on National Geographic Portugal. Seeing my photo published on Nat Geo as their Photo of the Day was surreal — a small milestone that makes me feel like a National Geographic photographer, even if I didn’t trek rainforests or photograph exotic wildlife. It’s a reminder that photography often travels further than you imagine.

Dear Clients, I Have a Message for You
Dear client, in every project, communication is key. This client message for you serves as a reminder that great results don’t come from blind estimates or unclear directions. Before engaging a photographer, take a moment to understand your goals, how the visuals will be used, and what you wish to achieve. The more we understand, the better we can produce. A successful collaboration always begins with honesty, clarity, and a shared vision toward creating meaningful work.

Photoessay: Ephemeral Temples
Ephemeral Temples is a photo project documenting the temporary prayer tents that appear across George Town, Penang, during the Hungry Ghost Festival. These makeshift structures transform roadsides and alleys into sacred spaces to honour the King of Hades and wandering spirits. The series captures how faith endures through impermanence and how Penang’s multi-racial harmony allows such traditions to flourish.

Behind the Scenes: Perhentian Island Photography Journey for a National Photo and Video Campaign for an International Brand.
My recent assignment took me to Perhentian Island for the first time, just before the monsoon season. The trip was a mix of logistics, light packing challenges, and quiet reflection at the airport. Amid the rush, I was reminded how composition often comes from subconscious observation — isolating frames from endless possibilities. This Perhentian Island photography journey was both a creative and personal reminder of why remote assignments are always worth it.

Photoessay: Gurney Bay, Penang.
A morning photoessay exploring Gurney Bay Penang, a luxurious waterfront park launched in 2024. Despite its clean design, I struggled with the flat, minimal space and lack of depth. With my Canon 5DSR and TS-E 45mm, I experimented with tilt-shift techniques, framing the waning crescent moon and Venus at dawn. This shoot reminded me how quickly light and clouds shift, and how even quiet places can teach you something new.

It was a privilege to witness world-class expertise in such a specialized field and to capture the atmosphere where science and innovation intersect.

Photoessay: Shadows and Light in George Town Morning.
I wandered through a George Town morning starting at 6 a.m., when the streets were still wrapped in shadows and faint light. From trishaw silhouettes and a cat’s unbothered stare to glowing shoplots, market rush, quiet prayers, and a massive mango tree, each frame revealed a city slowly waking up. This photoessay isn’t about dramatic scenes but about the delicate play between shadow, light, and Penang’s layered history.

Photoessay: Esplanade Penang Reflections
The newly refurbished Esplanade Penang has quickly become my favourite hangout spot. What makes it special isn’t just the upgrades but how nature has been preserved and seamlessly integrated with the surrounding heritage architecture. In this photoessay, I capture why I believe it’s the most well-preserved part of Penang. I’ve also created a captioned POV-style video under my 1 Minute Behind the Lens series, sharing my thought process during the shoot.

From an uncle glued to his phone to an old car fading into a textured wall, from trees overtaking rooftops to aunties locked in timeless conversations, each frame reveals quiet truths. A morning walk is never just exercise—it’s a reminder to notice the small, ironic, and poetic details around us.

Case Study: A Reminder to Practice Sustainability in the Photography Industry
The recent OCBC campaign where my image was licensed reminded me how crucial it is to practice sustainability in photography. Licensing is often overlooked, but it plays a key role in keeping our industry fair and creative. It allows photographers to stay motivated, ensures clients are charged fairly based on usage, and helps sustain photography as a craft and profession in the long run.
