The heart of hosting_Airbnb Campaign
The heart of hosting

I am glad that the campaign I worked on with Airbnb in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026 is now officially live and could finally share with you guys. If my memory serve me right, this is probably one of the most memorable hybrid photo and video national campaign I’ve worked on from ground up to date—together with the cool guys from Airbnb and of course the wonderful hosts. As a long time commercial hospitality and industry photographer, I've worked with multiple international companies on various national and international ad campaigns previously, but this one felt particularly close to heart, probably because it shares impactful stories of people from my home ground itself.

The campaign has brought me across three states and four locations in West Malaysia — from 2 locations in Selangor (Templer Park and Rawang) to the Perhentian Islands, and Langkawi. What began as early conversations slowly unfolded into months of coordination, unforeseen twist and turns, travel, long shooting days and improvisation along the way. I still felt quite surreal as most of the time, the work existed only in fragments — call sheets, rough edits, weather delays, flight schedules, and quiet conversations with hosts.

Now, it exists publicly, carrying the stories of the people behind the homes. Despite taking close to five months since the first shoot, I am glad to be able to see the campaign grow beyond what it was original set for and finally getting published. This campaign centred on host narratives. Not just architecture or scenery, but individuals — their values, stewardship, and sense of responsibility to place. Each location demanded a different pace. Some stories moved with the rhythm of the sea. Others unfolded within forests or wooden homes shaped by time.

As far as I know, the campaign will be on major social media platforms, so do keep an eye for them and tag me if possible. For those who are interested, I’ll attach some of the published pieces below for those who would like to explore the individual stories further:

The Resthouse, Perhentian Islands

Templer Park Rainforest Retreat, Rawang

Rumah Uda, Langkawi

White Mi Casa, Selangor

If you have any other campaigns in mind, feel free to speak with us. We will be more than happy to play a part in your next national level campaign. Meanwhile, enjoy the following excerpts and snippets that I have pull out from the campaign. Until then, speak soon!
